Baba Ramdev has been dominating the news this week. On Monday, he had students of Jawaharlal Nehru University up in arms objecting to an invitation to him to deliver a keynote address at the institution. On Tuesday, a Tamil Nadu-based Muslim organisation issued a fatwa against Baba Ramdev’s Patanjali consumer goods brand, saying the products are made using cow urine, which they contend is considered haram (forbidden) in Islam. The yoga guru also chose this week to invite, via Twitter, Times Now editor Arnab Goswami to a debate on the Vedas and Vedanta.

That isn’t all. Later on Tuesday evening, Baba Ramdev tweeted that he does not support homosexuality or cow slaughter since both run contrary to the principles of Vedanta. This is not the first time he has made anti-gay statements. He has consistently claimed that homosexuality is a disease that can be cured with yoga. He has also previously called for a country-wide ban on cow slaughter and said that cows should be given the status of the national animal.

This invited a wide range of responses from Twitter users. While there were some who supported Baba Ramdev’s views on the matters, most poked fun at the statement.
