Have a look at the new paper pattern, as proposed by CBSE:

Short-answer type questions

The paper pattern will be reviewed and short-answer type questions carrying two marks to be introduced and it will reduce the number of controversial high thinking questions, as declared by the board on Wednesday evening.

HOTS will now carry 10 marks

The higher- order thinking skills (HOTS) questions will carry 10 marks and will split into two sections of six and four-mark questions. Students will be given more options in the new pattern.

Short- answer type questions will make the paper easier: Here are the views of the teachers

  • The decision was welcomed by the teacher and they said, the HOTS questions were responsible for raising the difficulty level of the paper
  • A maths teacher at Mumbai’s Santacruz school told HT, “HOTS questions are tricky and for the past two years, they have been exceptionally tough. It is good that they will be restricted to only 10 per cent now.”
  • The teachers said, short-answer type questions will make the paper easier, “Shorter questions require less time to solve and will help students in completing the paper on time.”
