The Ford EcoSport has been one of the popular choices for local car buyers. As per data released by Society of Indian Automobiles Manufacturers (SIAM), the compact SUV has claimed the top position in terms of export in the financial year 2016. Last financial year, the Nissan Micra was the top exported car from its Indian facility.
As per the data, Ford has exported 83,325 EcoSport units in 2016 as compared to 55,178 units last year, thereby registering a growth of 51 per cent. The Ford India unit has been exporting the EcoSport compact SUV to several markets including Europe. Back in 2015, the Micra hatchback from Nissan had held the top spot as the most exported vehicle, while the EcoSport held the fourth position back then. Nissan Micra which was on top position last year with 76,120 units, has now witnessed a one per cent drop with 75,456 units exported in 2016.
The data further shows that Hyundai Motor India, who has been witnessing drop in sales for two consecutive years, has managed to have its two new products Creta and Xcent in the top 10 list. Apart from these two, the company also has the i10 and Grand i10 in the top 10 list.
Maruti Suzuki Alto has witnessed a big growth with 54,656 units exported in 2016 as compared to 31,594 units exported in 2015. The growth is attributed to exports to Sri Lanka which has gone up from 10,200 units in 2015 to 34,600 units this year.
