It will mark the first time that the summit, which will be held under the theme ‘Continuing the Diaspora Partnership: Expanding the Advancement of Education’, will be hosted in the United States.
The change in venue is expected to attract educators from Jamaica and across the Diaspora.
Led by co-chairs of the task force, Karlene Largie of the Union of Jamaican Alumni Associations (USA) and Lorraine Tracy of Legacy Learning Foundation, the summit will address issues such as special education, professional development, and alumni engagement, among others.
Organisers of the summit say this “is all for the betterment and growth of schools in Jamaica and in keeping with JDETF’s mission to advance education in Jamaica and realise the goals of vision 2030”.
According to a release from JDETF, “the summit has the full support of the Ministry of Education”, as well as Education Minister Senator Ruel Reid who has confirmed his attendance for the week-long activities.
Miramar’s mayor is expected to be the host, along with Dr Robert Runcie, superintendent of Broward County Public Schools, and Commissioner Dale VC Holness of Broward County.
Jamaica’s Ambassador to the United States Audrey Marks is also expected to attend the summit.
The summit’s South Florida location is expected to foster robust engagement with the worldwide alumni groups.
Five umbrella organisations from New York, Toronto, the United Kingdom, Jamaica, Florida, and the National Education Inspectorate and the National Education Trust have also confirmed their participation.
