The Ciaz sedan and the Ertiga MPV from Maruti Suzuki have recently been offered with SHVS technology (Smart Hybrid Vehicle by Suzuki) that helps the vehicles deliver better fuel efficiency figures. The recently launched Vitara Brezza uses the same 1.3-litre engine set up, Maruti has no plans of introducing the SHVS technology on the compact sedan.
The Maruti Vitara Brezza gets a 1.3-litre DDiS diesel engine with VGT that puts out about 90bhp of power and 210Nm of maximum torque. The technology has been mated with this engine in India to offer start/stop in traffic conditions with a larger battery and in turn saving fuel and improving fuel efficiency. However, the company is nothing planning to offer SHVS at the moment, saying that the Brezza already has class leading efficiency.
The Vitara Brezza with the competitive pricing is expected to out sell the likes of the Ford EcoSport and Mahindra TUV300. Maruti hence seems to be holding back on the technology and might introduce it with the first update, after a year.
Maruti is offering the Vitara Brezza in six variants – LDi, LDi (O), VDi, VDi (O), ZDi and ZDi+. The customers have multiple options to choose from with a price tag starting at Rs 6.99 lakh (Ex-showroom, Delhi).
