Smartphone manufacturer OnePlus is offering an HD movie update for the most common streaming services on its 5 and 5T models – but you’ll have to mail the device in.
The company says it will pay for the shipping fees, but you’ll have to send the device to its customer services department.
An employee wrote on the company’s message board that the unusual update procedure is due to technical copy protection issues.
The update can only be delivered from an authenticated PC to a smartphone through a wired connection. Without it, the two OnePlus smartphones won’t be able to show high-definition video streams from some providers.
More detailed instructions on how the process works and how long it takes will be available through customer service.
For security reasons, it is recommended to do a complete data backup and reset the phone to the factory settings before sending it in for the update
