Razer Smartphone With 5.7-Inch QHD Display, 8GB RAM Spotted Online

Razer may have plans to make a big splash with its first smartphone. Weeks ahead of the company’s scheduled event, a Razer Android phone has appeared on GFXBench website which suggests that the phone will have 8GB of RAM among other high-end features.

According to the listing, first spotted by PhoneRadar, the ‘Razer Phone’ will feature a 5.7-inch QHD (1440×2560 pixels) display. It will be powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 SoC and 8GB of RAM. Other features listed include 64GB inbuilt storage, a single 12-megapixel rear camera, and an 8-megapixel front-facing camera.

The high-end hardware specifications will fit into Razer’s supposed ambition to position its upcoming smartphone as a gaming device. How well Razer manages the software will of course determine whether its device is able to make the most out of the hardware.

Razer’s arrival to the smartphone industry follows the recent trend that has seen several smartphone companies try their hands at making or selling their own branded smartphones. Earlier this year, Pepsi launched its own smartphone. Camera company Red is also working on its own smartphone.

Even as smartphone market looks lucrative, Razer will soon find out how difficult it is compete with the likes of Apple and Samsung. Other than Apple and Samsung, every other company has been posting major losses in the recent quarters.

Though Razer has some expertise in the area. Earlier this year, the company acquired Nextbit, the smartphone company that made cloud-focused handsets.
