Sony, as most of us know, has not had an easy run in the phone business. Can its latest Xperia Z3+ change the game for it? Let’s find out:

The 5.2-inch (1,080×1,920) all-glass Xperia Z3+ is beautiful to look at. The display is rich and produces crisp visuals. The performance of the device is remarkably smooth as its Qualcomm Snapdragon 810 octa-core processor handles just about anything you throw at it. All your heavy games and apps run without any lags and multi-tasking is never an issue. At 144g, the Xperia Z3+ in on the lighter side. However, single-hand usage can get irritating at times as the glass body makes it too slippery.

In a world where smartphones have become the primary imaging device for many, the Xperia Z3+ scores big. This one offers a 20.7 megapixel (MP) rear camera and a dedicated camera button at the bottom right. The images produced (two of those are shown here) can give a digital camera tough competition. Also, the in-built camera tools such as Sound photo (let’s you take photos with background sound), time shift (slow motion effects) are interesting. The camera’s performance shall not disappoint in low-light conditions either. The 5.1MP front camera works fine for selfie lovers.

There were complaints of the handset overheating initially, but after a software update it appears to have been fixed, at least with our review unit.

Battery life, however, is average. It survived about seven hours on average usage.

Brilliant display, near perfect camera, smooth processing, sleek design, dust-proof, water-proof – the Sony Xperia Z3+ is a winner. But at Rs 55,990, we think, it is just too expensive. One might want to opt for an iPhone 6 if the person spends this much.
